Thoughts from the Editor

Every March, I look forward to St. Patrick's Day. I unpack my flags, get out the Leprechaun hats and pull my shamrock-green sweater out of the back of the closet. After a cold winter, celebrating St. Pat’s is a harbinger of Spring.

For me, it’s the start of the social season. Some of my best times have been at the parades and parties.

One special St Pat’s Day was spent at Radio City Music Hall with my best pal Sharon and my daughter Blythe enjoying Michael Flatley's River Dance. After the show, we made our way to an Irish pub to sing.

The Irish pubs were always a special part of the celebration, especially after the Belmar parade.

Ralph was the bass drummer for the Barnegat Bay Pipers. The band would compete with other bands as well as appear at events and parades. Every year the band would play in the Belmar Parade.

The parade was often a long cold day that culminated with pipers, drummers, friends and family meeting to have a beer (usually a Guinness) and Shepards Pie at the Sons of Shillelagh.

Another fun evening was dinner at the Dublin House in Red Bank and then on to Murphy’s in Rumson. We’d sit waiting for a Piper or two to show up and pipe us through the rest of the evening.

So Bangkok you ask? Well, probably one of the best and most unexpected St Patty’s day we have ever spent. On a business trip to Bangkok in 1997, we found ourselves on a very hot night being taken to an Irish Pub celebration at one of the local establishments. The green beer, the Irish dancers, pipers and drummers led to a very festive and fun experience.

Cranberry Creek Social Committee has always hosted fun and jubilant St Patrick’s Parties and this year promises to continue the tradition.

So wherever you find yourself, let your Irish out!
Sláinte!
