Scammy texts offering “refunds” for Amazon purchases

Beware of Scam Texts Claiming to Be from Amazon
Scammers are sending fake text messages that say you’re getting a refund for an Amazon purchase. These messages are not real — they are trying to trick you.
Here’s what happens:
You may get a text that looks like it's from Amazon. It might say something like, "We owe you a refund," or "Your purchase was flagged, click here to get your money back." The message will usually have a link.
Do not click the link.
If you do, it may take you to a fake website or ask for personal information — like your bank account or Amazon login. Scammers can then steal your identity or your money.
Here’s how to protect yourself:
- Don’t click on links in messages from unknown numbers.
- Don’t give out personal or financial information.
- If you’re unsure, go to Amazon’s website directly by typing amazon.com into your browser. You can also call Amazon’s official customer service number if needed.
- Report scam messages to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Remember:
Amazon will not ask for your personal information by text message. If something feels suspicious, it probably is.
